Capcom delivered good news for fans who shelled out for the PlayStation 5 Pro console, promising that Monster Hunter Wilds will receive support for the console’s enhancements via a release day patch. The announcement was made during Capcom’s Pre-Launch Community Update live stream event, in which developers discussed improvements being made to the final version of Monster Hunter Wilds ahead of its February 28, 2025 launch.
Monster Hunter Wilds is a first for the series, being the very first Monster Hunter title made from the ground up for the current generation of console hardware and PC. As such, Capcom’s promised to push the game’s visuals and art forward in a way that wasn’t possible with Monster Hunter Rise, which was originally conceived for the more limited hardware of the Nintendo Switch. Anticipation is thus extremely high, with the Monster Hunter Wilds beta breaking Steam player records for the year. Players of the beta came away with strong impressions, both positive and negative, and didn’t hesitate to share it with Capcom via social media and official feedback channels.
Capcom appears to be taking that feedback into account, mentioning some desired changes in the works that will debut in the game on release day. The company also announced something else sought-after by the game’s PlayStation-based fans – support for the PlayStation 5 Pro, the enhanced version of the PS5 hardware released in November 2024. During the Monster Hunter Wilds Pre-Launch Community Update stream, Capcom said that on launch day the game will receive a day-one patch to add support for various PS5 Pro features. Capcom also took to social media to confirm the addition, posting on its official Twitter and Bluesky accounts.
Monster Hunter Wilds Will Be PS5 Pro Enhanced After Day 1 Patch
Unfortunately for impatient PS5 Pro owners, Capcom did not detail exactly what form the PS5 Pro support in Monster Hunter Wilds would take. The publisher instead said that it will share more details on specific features or graphical enhancements “at a later date.” However, if other games that feature PS5 Pro enhancements prove illustrative, then PS5 Pro owners who play Monster Hunter Wilds should expect fewer compromises when trying to hit the game’s performance targets. Higher resolution or a better-looking visual experience while maintaining a smoother framerate are among some of the benefits PS5 Pro Enhanced games have enjoyed.
Reaction to the announcement was generally positive, with many PS5 Pro-owning players (and some who plan to purchase a PS5 Pro) praising the decision. A few expressed relief, given that performance issues on all platforms hindered many players’ ability to get the most out of the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta back in November, even with a few days of earlier access for PS5 owners. Additionally, other major releases have suffered from odd bugs and technical issues related to the PS5 Pro, suggesting that Sony’s rollout of the hardware hasn’t been free of wrinkles.
